Over the all time that I’ve been helping clients setup Gmail and Google Apps on their computers or phones, one thing I noticed is that there is so much information on the Gmail help pages – its very easy to get annoyed and frustrated when trying to find a quick answer to a simple setup or troubleshooting question. When I setup a client’s Google Apps mailboxes, there’s always a search for the exact server names and port numbers, or some other issue. So, I made a point of saving these URLs in my Evernote account for easy reference.
Here’s a few handy links…probably not a bad idea to bookmark these yourself.
Things you don’t need to do every day, but eventually will sometime:
- Sending mail from a different address (when you want your mail to appear to come from another domain or account)
- Reading full email headers (when you are wondering what the heck went on with that odd email you received)
- General info about locating and viewing message headers
- About IMAP vs POP (you want to use IMAP)
- Retrieving email from other accounts
- Forwarding mail to another account
- Multiple simultaneous Google login support links list
- If you want to really geek the place up, check this great post from Labnol.org about how to auto-forward past messages in bulk using Google Docs.
Mail client app setup – desktop or mobile:
- Desktop & mobile client setup links list (IMAP)
- Outlook 2007
- Outlook Express
- Apple Mail 4.0
- Android

- Blackberry
Happy emailing… hope you find this handy!
