feedinformer1RSS (Real Simple Syndication) is a great way to keep on top of the news (any news!) from anywhere on the Internet. I am sometimes asked how to add new, automatically updating content to a website – and RSS provides easy ways to do just that. While there are several methods to add a single RSS feed’s content to a web page or blog (such as FeedBurner or custom scripts), how do you easily add content from several sources at once? You can actually create a “Feed Mix” of your favorite news sources into a single RSS feed – and then display its headlines (and content, if you choose) on your blog or website – much like the mix of  tech news headlines you see on the sidebar here. (  –>)

Feed Informer makes RSS “mixes” easy. You can sign up for a free account and quickly get started to combine your favorite news sources (using the sources’ RSS feed URL addresses) into a single RSS feed. What’s even better is that you can select both the method and the appearance of how the feed will be displayed. If you have a WordPress blog, this couldn’t be easier. Simply use the RSS widget, add the Feed Informer combo feed URL you created, and voila – instant, self-updating headlines on your site.

Feed Informer takes pains to make the process super-easy and intuitive, walking you through, step by step  – providing helpful info along the way. Check it out!

Great post, Mary! I recently did a post about ways to use the RSS widget in WordPress to pull in from the various places you contribute your own content to, and your article is the perfect extension of what I was talking about.

The only downside is that this makes it even easier for others to “borrow” your rss feed to use on their own site. Not that they couldn’t already do that before now. Yahoo Pipes has been around for awhile. I suppose that’s the price we pay for putting content out on the web. It’s never truly safe.

Hi Andrea – Thanks (and sorry for my late reply to your comment!). I know – the RSS and/or blog content – heck, any content is open for theft, I suppose. Good thing about RSS is that its always linked to the source feed and that’s hard to rip off, I suppose.

Tried to play with Yahoo Pipes, too… seemed that I barely scratched the surface of it!

      Thanks again for posting, Andrea!!
